An Anthem in a Noble Key, E-flat 

“Anthem” is an anthem written in a noble key. Since anthems were originally church music, SATOKO focused on using suitable notes, rhythm, and form to express the feeling of praise, dedication and patriotism.

SATOKO a Humble Artist

Years ago, SATOKO heard this anthem all of a sudden from nowhere (perhaps from another dimension!?) while she was asleep.  Her initial response was, “Why am I hearing this? Why an anthem?  Every country already has its own song. How would this be of any use to anyone?” but she wrote down the notes while she was in bed anyway. Several years later, SATOKO ended up providing music titled “Anthem” to then Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Kofi Annan. The United Nations did not have its own song and was looking for one for an occasion when it celebrated the Public Service Day (PSA).

Through many of her similar experiences SATOKO has learned that each piece has a life of its own. The artist may not know whom it may be appealing to and when it would be useful.  “Anthem” is a stark reminder for SATOKO that she should stay humble towards what she has assisted in coming to life.

Her music continues to serve the United Nations DESA. Her pieces (especially this “Anthem”) were officially chosen numerous times since then and can be heared with the messages given by the top UN officials such as then Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, then Under-Secretary General Jose Antonio Ocampo and Sha Zukang, Director, Division of Public Administration and Development Management of DESA Guido Bertucci, and so on. It became their signature piece of Public Service Announcement, PSA. Her music has been heard by millions of people around the globe.
