SATOKO is a member of ASCAP (the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers). She writes classical pieces, pop/rock and jazz. Her pieces were played in numerous events in Paris, New York, Tokyo, Yerevan, Moscow, and Novosibirsk.
She will be giving master classes at Orenburg State University (Russia) from fall 2020.
SATOKO’s Unique Background
Born to a family of Shinto priests, Satoko worked as a MIKO maiden in her youth. Her grandfather, uncles, an aunt, cousins were/are priests and owned/own Shinto Shrines in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. Since her father was not the oldest son, he worked in the cooperate world, for MUFG Bank (which took him to New York City) and Nikon Cameras. However, since he did have a license, he served as a priest in his spare time. Therefore, SATOKO had the privilege to observe sacred rituals that were not open to the public. She incorporates those sounds into her music so that the rest of the world will be able to enjoy the traditional Japanese art. Her maternal ancestors were Samurai and worked for the Date Family (Date Clan https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Date_clan) as Karou/Shukurou (the Tomizuka family) in Sendai, Japan. Her inspiration comes from the old stories that her maternal grandmother, Aiko Tomizuka, had told her when she was a little girl. At the same time, since Shinto welcomes all religions, SATOKO was sent to British and American Christian Schools in Japan and a Catholic School in the US (13 years in total). Therefore, she writes Christian Music as well. SATOKO’s passion is music and cultural relations.
